All or Nothing - Tottenham Hotspur- Series Review

Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video

This series covers the 2019-20 season of the English Premier League club "Tottenham Hotspur". Tottenham finished as runners-up in the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League losing 0-2 to fellow Premier League side Liverpool.

This 9 episode series was released in 3 parts, the first three came out on the 31st of August, the next three episodes a week later, and the last three yet another week later on the 14th of September. It starts with flashbacks of the previous year's dream run in the Champions League. Later, the focus shifts to the current season which is not the best of starts. It shows Tottenham coach "Mauricio Pochettino" attending press conferences with reporters asking him tough questions. The mood is gloomy and by the 22nd-minute into the first episode, Pochettino is sacked and is replaced by José Mourinho.

Now, José Mourinho's track record has been phenomenal, winning many trophies with the teams he has coached. Tottenham's players, fans, and the Board hope he can replicate the same here. When he takes up his position at Tottenham, it is languishing at the 14th place (in a league consisting of 20 teams) and is way away from the top 4 - which is where you need to be to qualify for the Champions League for next season.

If I were to highlight the best parts of the series, they would be the witty replies that Mourinho gives when he is asked questions by his detractors (news reporters), the way he addresses his players in the dressing room. It is also interesting to note how Daniel Levy (Chairman of Tottenham) and Mourinho deal with player injuries, their contracts, and "clearing the air" by dealing with players' concerns.

There are certain aspects where I felt the series misses out on, specifically the screen time given to Pochettino. He was at the helm for 12 Premier League games, 4 Champions League games, and the whole of the EFL cup. Well, Tottenham appeared in the EFL cup for only one game when they were knocked out of the competition by Fourth-Tier "Colchester United" on penalties. Now all of these are a considerable chunk of events that have not been given enough coverage. Another missed opportunity was the lack of attention given to fans' support towards the club. There are a couple of instances but not much that catches the attention.

On the whole, this series has its moments but is not among the best I have viewed although I must admit that the last episode (ninth) was very enthralling. You can give this series a go, but if you are not hooked onto it by the third episode you should probably stop watching it.

Elemental (2023) - Movie Review

Where to Watch: Disney + Hotstar When I think about Pixar, the first movie that comes to mind is "Toy Story 3" (my favourite animated movie). In 2022, Pixar released "Lightyear" a spin-off of the "Toy Story" Series focusing on one of the series' main characters "Buzz Lightyear". "Lightyear" was a box-office bomb and received mixed reviews. I felt the first 15-20 minutes of that movie were good, but after that it went haywire. In June 2023, Pixar's twenty-seventh movie "Elemental" was released. It is a marked improvement over both "Lightyear" and "Good Dinosaur"(Peter Sohn served as the director for both "Good Dinosaur" and "Elemental"). This movie premiered at the 76th Cannes Film Festival where it received mixed reviews , but the reviews became more positive when it reached wider audiences.  It is the story of the four elements of nature - Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. The focu

It's a Wonderful Life (1946) - Movie Review

Where to Watch: Free Streaming on PLEX, available for rent on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube Movies Christmas - it has to be one of the most celebrated festivals across the world. It is the time for social and family gatherings, religious services, people taking part in gift-giving, and businesses experiencing increased economic activity. Things seem to be happy during this time of the holiday season. There are a lot of "Christmas-themed" movies. One of them is "Home Alone (1990)" which seems to be playing on the television every time you switch it on during this period. As I am not a fan of Slapstick humor, I decided to watch something else. That something else was "It's a Wonderful Life". A movie that was not as financially successful as "Home Alone" but was more "Critically Acclaimed" (albeit not immediately). This stars James Stewart, whom I have seen previously in "Rear Window" (another classic). The movie starts with an

Sunderland 'Til I Die - Season 3 (2024)

Where to Watch: Netflix The third installment of this fly-on-the-wall sports documentary is back on Netflix after four years since the previous season and six years since the first one.  We have a new Chairman - "Kyril  Louis-Dreyfus" the  son of "Robert Louis-Dreyfus" (a former CEO of Addidas and French Football Team Marseille). This season covers  the  2021-2022 season  of Sunderland , their fourth consecutive one in League One.   The season shows their intent to push themselves from "League One" (3rd Tier of the English Footballing System) to "The Championship" (2nd Tier of the English Footballing System). Like the former seasons, this one gives ample screen time to the non-sporting staff and  fans,  and how the club's fortunes  are correlated  with their well-being. Finishing in the top two out of 24 teams guarantees automatic promotion , finishing  anywhere from third to sixth means that you have to go through the dreaded playoffs, where
