It's a Wonderful Life (1946) - Movie Review

Where to Watch: Free Streaming on PLEX, available for rent on Amazon Prime Video, YouTube Movies

Christmas - it has to be one of the most celebrated festivals across the world. It is the time for social and family gatherings, religious services, people taking part in gift-giving, and businesses experiencing increased economic activity. Things seem to be happy during this time of the holiday season.

There are a lot of "Christmas-themed" movies. One of them is "Home Alone (1990)" which seems to be playing on the television every time you switch it on during this period. As I am not a fan of Slapstick humor, I decided to watch something else. That something else was "It's a Wonderful Life". A movie that was not as financially successful as "Home Alone" but was more "Critically Acclaimed" (albeit not immediately).

This stars James Stewart, whom I have seen previously in "Rear Window" (another classic). The movie starts with an incident that is about to happen. We are then quickly shown flashbacks of George Bailey's (James Stewart's) life and his entire story. The movie deftly portrays George's impact on the people's lives. Talking more about this movie would reveal nothing but spoilers. With a runtime of 131 Minutes, it gets slightly tedious in between, but the last 30 minutes are worth the slow build-up.

This movie has a sweet message at the end, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to watch a movie of any genre, a Christmas-themed movie, or even "Home Alone" (Again).

All or Nothing - Tottenham Hotspur- Series Review

Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video This series covers the 2019-20 season of the English Premier League club "Tottenham Hotspur". Tottenham finished as runners-up in the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League losing 0-2 to fellow Premier League side Liverpool. This 9 episode series was released in 3 parts, the first three came out on the 31st of August, the next three episodes a week later, and the last three yet another week later on the 14th of September. It starts with flashbacks of the previous year's dream run in the Champions League. Later, the focus shifts to the current season which is not the best of starts. It shows Tottenham coach "Mauricio Pochettino" attending press conferences with reporters asking him tough questions. The mood is gloomy and by the 22nd-minute into the first episode, Pochettino is sacked and is replaced by José Mourinho. Now, José Mourinho's track record has been phenomenal, winning many trophies with the teams he has coached. Tottenham...

Sunderland 'Til I Die - Season 3 (2024)

Where to Watch: Netflix The third installment of this fly-on-the-wall sports documentary is back on Netflix after four years since the previous season and six years since the first one.  We have a new Chairman - "Kyril  Louis-Dreyfus" the  son of "Robert Louis-Dreyfus" (a former CEO of Addidas and French Football Team Marseille). This season covers  the  2021-2022 season  of Sunderland , their fourth consecutive one in League One.   The season shows their intent to push themselves from "League One" (3rd Tier of the English Footballing System) to "The Championship" (2nd Tier of the English Footballing System). Like the former seasons, this one gives ample screen time to the non-sporting staff and  fans,  and how the club's fortunes  are correlated  with their well-being. Finishing in the top two out of 24 teams guarantees automatic promotion , finishing  anywhere from third to sixth means that you have to go through the dreaded ...

Heat (1995) - Movie Review

Where to Watch: Amazon Prime Video Movies, when you decide to watch one, what do you look at? The IMDB score? The Runtime? The Cast? The Genre? The Director? The book/material from which it draws inspiration? When I started watching movies, I used to check the IMDB score. But there were many instances where I felt disappointed, mainly because some had a higher rating than they should have while others had a lower rating. Mostly I think IMDB is biased because users can skew the ratings. Otherwise, how does one justify Mithun Chakraborty's Gunda receiving 7.3/10 (as of 15th Aug 2023)? I reckon Metacritic 's ratings on a scale of 100 makes sense for mainstream movies. I went through the list of my watched movies and gave a rating on a scale of 100 and checked their Metacritic Ratings and found them to be similar to what I had given. (for documentaries I generally don't refer to them as they usually have high ratings). One of my favorite Film critics is Chris Stuckmann. I came...
